Haldia Dock Complex (HDC), under Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata (SMPK), has achieved a historic milestone by crossing 2.0 lakh TEUs of container throughput in calendar year 2025, the highest-ever volume handled by the dock in a single year. The landmark was reached as of 10:00 hrs on December 17, with 15 days remaining in the year.
The achievement decisively surpasses the previous peak of 1,73,288 TEUs recorded in calendar year 2021 and signals a strong revival after a period of subdued performance. Container throughput at HDC had declined to 1,14,634 TEUs in 2022 and 1,11,213 TEUs in 2023, before recovering to 1,60,155 TEUs in 2024 and surging past the 2 lakh mark in 2025.
Port officials attributed the record-breaking performance to focused trade facilitation measures, proactive marketing initiatives, improved hinterland and coastal connectivity, and renewed confidence among trade partners and shipping lines. The turnaround highlights HDC’s growing role in serving containerised cargo for eastern India.
The milestone was credited to the collective efforts of Team HDC, terminal operator HICT (JM Baxi Group), shipping lines, trade partners and other stakeholders, whose collaboration has helped unlock the port’s true container handling potential and restore growth momentum.
