Global container shipping line Hapag-Lloyd has advised customers of the suspension of cargo transit across the Pakistan–Afghanistan land border, citing operational and security-related constraints that are disrupting cross-border movements.
In a customer advisory, the carrier said the situation has impacted the movement of import and export containers moving via Pakistani gateways for Afghanistan-bound cargo. As a result, shipments may face delays, re-routing, or temporary holding at ports and inland facilities until normal transit conditions are restored.
Hapag-Lloyd said it is closely monitoring developments on the ground and coordinating with local authorities, terminals and logistics partners to assess alternative options where feasible. Customers have been advised to review their supply-chain plans and remain in close contact with local Hapag-Lloyd offices for shipment-specific guidance.
Industry sources noted that the Pakistan–Afghanistan corridor is a critical trade route for Afghan imports, including food, construction materials and consumer goods. Disruptions along the border can have significant knock-on effects on regional supply chains, particularly for time-sensitive cargo.
The carrier said further updates will be issued as the situation evolves and once clarity emerges on the resumption of cross-border transit.
