Hapag-Lloyd has strengthened its West Coast 5 (WC5) service by introducing a direct port call at Oakland, enhancing connectivity between the US West Coast and key international trade routes. The service enhancement is designed to provide customers with improved transit times, greater schedule reliability and expanded cargo options.
The addition of Oakland to the WC5 rotation will offer exporters and importers in Northern California more efficient access to Hapag-Lloyd’s global shipping network. The direct call is expected to support growing demand for containerised cargo, including agricultural exports, consumer goods, industrial products and retail shipments.
The revised service aims to improve operational flexibility while reducing inland transportation requirements for customers serving the Oakland market. By providing a direct gateway, Hapag-Lloyd expects to streamline cargo flows and strengthen supply chain efficiency for businesses across the region.
The move forms part of the carrier’s ongoing efforts to optimise its service network in response to evolving customer requirements and changing trade patterns. Hapag-Lloyd continues to invest in network enhancements that improve port coverage, operational reliability and end-to-end logistics solutions.
The inclusion of Oakland in the WC5 service reinforces the port’s strategic role in trans-Pacific trade while further strengthening Hapag-Lloyd’s presence on one of the world’s busiest container shipping corridors.
