Trade operations under the India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) officially commenced at GRFL-ICD Sahnewal, Ludhiana, with the flag-off of the first export consignment during a ceremony jointly organised by the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) in association with the Office of the DGFT (Regional Authority), Ludhiana, and the Customs Commissionerate, Ludhiana.
The ceremony marked a significant milestone in the implementation of the India–UK CETA, underscoring the growing economic partnership between the two countries and opening new opportunities for Indian exporters to access the UK market under the preferential trade agreement.
Senior officials from the DGFT, Customs Commissionerate, GRFL-ICD Sahnewal, and FIEO participated in the event, formally flagging off the first export consignment from ICD Ludhiana under the landmark agreement.
Speaking on the occasion, officials highlighted that the India–UK CETA is expected to boost bilateral trade by reducing trade barriers, improving market access, and enhancing the global competitiveness of Indian products. The agreement is also anticipated to benefit exporters across key sectors by facilitating smoother and more efficient trade with the United Kingdom.
The successful launch of trade operations from ICD Ludhiana reflects the coordinated efforts of government agencies, customs authorities, logistics stakeholders, and the export community in ensuring the seamless implementation of the agreement.
With the India–UK CETA now operational, exporters from Punjab and the northern region are expected to gain significantly from enhanced export opportunities, reinforcing India’s position as a reliable trading partner and strengthening bilateral economic cooperation with the United Kingdom.
