India’s textile and apparel exports increased by 6.39% in August, reflecting continued demand for Indian textile products in overseas markets.

The growth comes as exporters seek to strengthen shipments across key international destinations and expand India’s presence in the global textile and apparel supply chain.

The sector includes a wide range of products, from yarn, fabrics and made-ups to ready-made garments and other apparel items. Exporters are focusing on improving competitiveness, product quality and delivery capabilities to meet changing global sourcing requirements.

The August performance provides a positive signal for India’s textile export sector amid intense competition from other major manufacturing and sourcing destinations.

Industry stakeholders are also looking to benefit from trade agreements and improved market access as India seeks to expand its merchandise exports. Greater access to overseas markets could create additional opportunities for textile and apparel manufacturers.

India’s textile industry remains an important contributor to merchandise exports and supports a large employment base across manufacturing and allied activities.

The latest export growth is expected to encourage industry efforts to expand production capacity, diversify markets and move toward higher-value textile and apparel products.
