Inland water transport is gaining momentum in Kerala with barge MB Meenachil of Lots Shipping Limited successfully transporting Rock Phosphate from Cochin Port Authority to the Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore Ltd. (FACT) plant via the Champakkara Canal on National Waterway-3.

The operation highlights the efficiency and sustainability of waterborne logistics, offering a cost-effective and eco-friendly alternative to road transport. This initiative is expected to reduce traffic congestion and carbon emissions while strengthening the role of waterways in India’s cargo movement.

Industry observers note that the development underscores the growing importance of National Waterway-3 in facilitating seamless cargo connectivity in the state.
