Melbourne’s container trade surged 10.9% in December, driven by strong import and export volumes at the city’s key port facilities.

Port authorities said both incoming and outgoing container traffic contributed to the growth, reflecting robust demand across retail, manufacturing, and agricultural sectors. The increase also highlights continued resilience in supply chains despite global shipping challenges.

Officials noted that the year-end peak season, along with strategic inventory replenishments by businesses, helped drive the strong month-on-month performance. The port aims to maintain this momentum in early 2026 through infrastructure upgrades and improved operational efficiency.
