MOL Group company MOL Cruises, Ltd. (MITSUI OCEAN CRUISES) has entered a new phase of its cruise business with the MITSUI OCEAN SAKURA commencing service on September 19. The vessel departed from the Port of Yokohama on its maiden voyage.
A naming ceremony was held on September 16 at the Yokohama Shinko Pier Cruise Terminal, attended by stakeholders and industry representatives.
MITSUI OCEAN SAKURA is the second vessel in the MITSUI OCEAN CRUISES fleet, following MITSUI OCEAN FUJI, which entered service in December 2024. Like its sister ship, the new vessel offers all-suite accommodation with ocean views.
As a Japanese-registered cruise ship, MITSUI OCEAN SAKURA will primarily operate short- and medium-duration cruises departing from and returning to ports across Japan. The cruise line has scheduled 29 inaugural voyages through December 2026.
The vessel incorporates Japanese aesthetics and hospitality, including the new Sushi Bar Shiosai, offering both counter and table seating with sushi and Japanese sake. Its Grand Pool Area also features a footbath, providing passengers with an additional space for relaxation.
With the addition of MITSUI OCEAN SAKURA, MITSUI OCEAN CRUISES now operates a two-ship fleet, strengthening its presence in Japan’s growing cruise market.
