The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has officially announced plans to construct the AirTrain Newark system, a new rail link aimed at enhancing connectivity between Newark Liberty International Airport and surrounding transportation hubs.
The project will provide seamless connections for passengers and airport workers, linking terminals with regional rail lines and local transit systems. Officials said the AirTrain Newark system is expected to reduce road congestion, improve travel times, and support the airport’s long-term growth.
Construction is slated to begin later this year, with phased completion planned over the next several years. The authority emphasized that the project aligns with its broader infrastructure modernization initiatives to boost passenger experience and strengthen the region’s transportation network.
The AirTrain is also expected to support sustainable mobility goals, with modern electric trains reducing reliance on road transport and lowering emissions around the airport corridor.
