The ports overseen by the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) recorded a 10.6 per cent increase in container throughput during 2025, reaching 8.3 million TEUs, compared to 7.5 million TEUs in 2024.
Transhipment containers also rose by 11.8 per cent, reaching 1.9 million TEUs, up from 1.7 million TEUs last year.
Total exported containers increased by 11.7 per cent to 3.1 million TEUs, compared to 2.8 million TEUs previously, while total imported containers grew by 8.8 per cent, reaching 3.2 million TEUs, up from 2.98 million TEUs last year.
In addition, total cargo tonnage handled, including general cargo, solid bulk cargo, and liquid bulk cargo, rose by 1.06 per cent to 242 million tonnes, compared to 239 million tonnes in the corresponding period of 2024.
General cargo totalled 12 million tonnes, liquid bulk cargo 176 million tonnes, and solid bulk cargo 53 million tonnes.
Meanwhile, maritime traffic declined by 17.98 per cent to 9,508 vessels, compared to 11,592 vessels last year.
It is worth noting that during December 2025, the ports overseen by Mawani recorded a 12.5 per cent increase in container throughput, reaching 800,089 TEUs, compared to 711,170 TEUs in December 2024.
Transhipment containers rose by 19.25 per cent to 188,995 TEUs, compared to 158,491 TEUs last year.
Last week, Mawani signed a land lease contract with the Arabian Chemical Terminals Ltd. (ACT) to establish storage tanks for the handling and export of chemical and petrochemical products at Jubail Commercial Port.
