Rhenus Project Logistics has completed the multimodal transportation of more than 400 tonnes of transformer equipment from China to Canada for a major industrial project.
The project included two oversized transformers, each weighing 80 tonnes, requiring specialised handling and heavy-lift solutions throughout the transportation process. Rhenus teams in China and Canada coordinated the shipments across multiple project phases.
The transformers were transported through a combination of ocean freight, rail and specialised heavy-haul road transport before reaching their final destination. Rhenus managed the shipments from the factory through to final installation, including route assessments, transportation planning and multimodal coordination.
Specialised lifting operations were also carried out to ensure the equipment was safely positioned at the project site. The operation required close coordination between multiple stakeholders and careful management of oversized cargo at each stage.
Rhenus said the project demonstrates its capabilities in handling heavyweight and oversized equipment for industrial, energy, infrastructure and manufacturing projects.
The logistics provider’s integrated project logistics approach covered heavy-haul transportation, lifting operations and delivery coordination, allowing the transformer equipment to move from its origin in China to the Canadian project site as a single coordinated operation.
The successful shipment highlights the growing importance of specialised project logistics for large infrastructure developments, where transformers and other heavy equipment require customised transport solutions across international supply chains.
