Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has secured a new order for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier from Greece-based Celsius Shipping, further strengthening its position in the high-value LNG shipbuilding segment.
Industry sources indicate that the vessel will be equipped with advanced containment systems and fuel-efficient propulsion technology designed to meet stringent environmental and emissions standards. The contract underscores continued demand for modern LNG carriers amid growing global trade in liquefied natural gas.
The newbuild is expected to feature cutting-edge membrane cargo tanks and energy-saving devices aimed at improving operational efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Delivery is likely to be scheduled within the next few years, in line with current LNG carrier construction timelines.
For Celsius Shipping, the order represents an expansion of its LNG fleet as it capitalises on strong charter market fundamentals and long-term demand for cleaner-burning fuels. For SHI, the deal adds to its robust orderbook and reinforces South Korea’s dominance in the LNG carrier construction market.
The agreement reflects sustained investment in LNG shipping infrastructure as energy companies and shipowners position themselves to support expanding global gas supply chains.
