V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOC Port), Tuticorin, has taken another step towards sustainable port operations with the flag-off of two electric-operated payloaders on Monday.

The electric payloaders, each with a payload capacity of 5.5 cubic metres (CBM), were flagged off by Shri Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE, Chairperson, along with Shri Rajesh Soundararajan, IAS, Deputy Chairperson, in the presence of senior port officials.

Deployed by M/s Aasian Shipping Agency, the induction of the EV payloaders marks a significant move towards reducing carbon emissions and promoting environmentally responsible cargo handling at the port.

Port officials said the initiative aligns with VOC Port Authority’s broader commitment to green logistics, modernisation of equipment, and adoption of clean energy solutions to enhance operational efficiency while minimising environmental impact.

The introduction of electric material-handling equipment is expected to contribute to lower emissions, reduced noise levels, and improved working conditions within port premises, reinforcing VOC Port’s position as a frontrunner in sustainable port development.
