The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced plans to bid out 124 highway and expressway projects with an estimated cost of ₹3.4 lakh crore in the financial year 2025-26. These projects will cover a total length of 6,376 kilometres.
Projects across multiple models
The Gorakhpur–Kishanganj–Siliguri project, spanning 476 kilometres, will be bid out under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM). The Tharad–Deesa–Mehsana–Ahmedabad (Pkg 1) project, which spans 106 kilometres, will be taken up under the Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) model.
The capacity augmentation of the Pampore (Srinagar) to Qazigund section of NH-44, covering 48 kilometres, will be executed through the Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode. This includes construction of service roads and grade-separated structures.
Execution models and concession periods
National highway projects are executed primarily through three models: Build Operate and Transfer (BOT), Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM), and Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC).
The concession period for BOT and HAM projects, which includes maintenance responsibilities, ranges between 15 and 20 years and generally 15 years respectively. In EPC projects, the defect liability period is five years for bituminous pavement works and 10 years for concrete pavement works.
