Congo Terminal has announced the building of a new port terminal in Pointe-Noire for a total investment of over €400 million ($420 million).
Congo Terminal announced in September 2024 that it is developing a new container terminal, Congo Terminal ‘Môle Est’, which will be operational in 2027, in anticipation of the company’s expansion.
The new terminal will include 750 metres of quays with a draft of 17 metres, 26 hectares of quayside, and 16 fully electric gantries, including 4 STS and 12 RTG.
A massive dredging work will expand the channel to 300 metres at the curve and 250 metres in the remaining portions.
Congo Terminal’s new infrastructure, which meets EDGE certification criteria, will allow it to accept higher-capacity vessels from Asia, the Indian subcontinent, and Europe.
This construction will enhance terminal capacity from 1 million to over 2.3 million TEUs handled annually.
Séraphin BHALAT, Managing Director of the Port Autonome de Pointe-Noire (PAPN), said: “The Môle Est project is a major step for Pointe Noire port. It will create over 900 additional jobs and boost economic exchanges in the sub-region.”
Anthony Samzun, Managing Director of Congo Terminal, stated: “The construction of the East Mole is a joint project of the Port Autonome de Pointe-Noire (PAPN) and Congo Terminal to increase the nautical and operational capacities of the Pointe-Noire container terminal, in order to anticipate the new needs of users of the Port of Pointe-Noire and shipping lines that will be able to ship in their largest vessels.”
In December 2024, a new sustainable container terminal officially opened at Abu Dhabi’s Khalifa Port.
