Peel Ports Group has named Captain Susan Cloggie-Holden as its new Group Harbour Master, following the retirement of Gary Doyle later this month.

Capt Cloggie-Holden brings extensive operational experience from a 25-year career with the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA), where she became the organisation’s first female commanding officer in 2021.

She is the first woman to assume the Group Harbour Master role at Peel Ports.

She will oversee marine operations across Peel Ports’ seven statutory harbour authorities, including the Port of Liverpool, Clydeport, and London Medway.

Her remit includes vessel traffic management, pilotage, harbour services, and maritime safety.

Her appointment follows the departure of Gary Doyle, who joined Peel Ports in 2017 after holding senior roles in the Royal Navy, including Naval Regional Commander for the North of England and Isle of Man.

Doyle led the implementation of a centralised port control centre, supported the development of the Liverpool2 terminal, and enhanced pilot PPE standards. He also helped align the company’s marine operations with broader national defence and safety frameworks.

Capt Cloggie-Holden’s maritime career began in 2000. Her operational deployments span global theatres, including roles in counter-piracy and logistics support for UK defence operations.

She assumed the Group Harbour Master role earlier this month.

Last month, Peel Ports Group officially unveiled its new £30 million ($40.6 million) RoRo berth at London Medway as it welcomed a key freight service to the facility. The company hosted guests at the port in Sheerness for a ceremony to mark the completion of the new in-river vessel berth and floating pontoon, which will boost capacity for RoRo cargo handling.
