International air cargo operations at Visakhapatnam Airport resumed on November 15, marking a major boost for exporters and industries across the region. The announcement was made by Civil Aviation Minister K. Ramohan Naidu during the 30th CII Partnership Summit, officially ending the suspension that had been in effect since the Covid-19 pandemic.
The airport is currently operating two international passenger flights—to Singapore and Abu Dhabi—with over 90 percent occupancy on most days. The reinstatement of cargo services is expected to significantly ease logistics challenges for pharmaceutical units in the Pharma Park, textile manufacturers, and enterprises in the Visakhapatnam Special Economic Zone (VSEZ), many of which were previously relying on Hyderabad and Chennai airports for shipments.
The Andhra Pradesh Air Travellers Association (APATA) expressed appreciation to Vizag MP Sribharat for his sustained efforts in coordinating with the Civil Aviation Ministry. The association also acknowledged the role of Minister Ramohan in enabling the revival of cargo operations.
IndiGo and Singapore Airlines are expected to begin dedicated cargo services soon, further improving the city’s international connectivity. In a joint statement, APATA representatives K. Kumar Raja, D. S. Varma, and O. Naresh Kumar urged cargo handlers and logistics operators to fully utilize the restored facility, noting that the development presents a timely opportunity to enhance global linkages and strengthen the Ease of Doing Business for regional industries.
