Welcoming the successful conclusion of the India–European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA), Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) Chairman Dr. A. Sakthivel hailed the pact as a major breakthrough for India’s apparel sector.
Dr. Sakthivel said the agreement would significantly boost India’s apparel exports by providing preferential access to the EU—one of the largest and most quality-conscious markets globally. The FTA is expected to accelerate export growth, enhance competitiveness, and strengthen India’s position as a reliable sourcing hub for global apparel brands.
“With reduced tariff barriers, Indian exporters will be able to compete more effectively on quality, design innovation, sustainability, and compliance with stringent EU standards,” he noted. The agreement is also expected to attract new investments, support MSMEs, and generate large-scale employment across apparel manufacturing clusters.
He added that the India–EU FTA aligns with India’s long-term vision of becoming a global hub for value-added and responsible apparel manufacturing, while further deepening economic ties between India and the European Union.
