Kandla has etched its name in maritime history by successfully executing a highly complex and precision-driven Triple Banking Ship-to-Ship (STS) operation — a first-of-its-kind achievement at a tidal port.
In a seamless display of operational excellence and coordination, a Capesize vessel discharged approximately 1,17,000 tonnes of cargo to a transshipment vessel. Simultaneously, a tandem transfer of 77,000 tonnes was carried out onto a Panamax vessel, showcasing exceptional synchronization and technical expertise.
The operation, conducted under challenging tidal conditions, highlights Kandla’s growing capabilities in handling large-scale and intricate maritime logistics. Triple banking — involving three vessels positioned side-by-side for cargo transfer — is considered a highly demanding maneuver, especially at ports with strong tidal variations.
This milestone not only demonstrates advanced planning and execution but also reinforces Kandla’s position as a key hub for efficient cargo handling and transshipment on India’s western coast.
Port officials and maritime stakeholders have lauded the achievement, noting that such complex operations enhance turnaround efficiency, reduce congestion, and optimize vessel utilization — critical factors in today’s dynamic global shipping environment.
With this landmark feat, Kandla continues to strengthen its reputation as a technologically capable and future-ready port, setting new benchmarks in maritime operations.
