The U.S. state of Maryland has reached a settlement in principle with the owner of the container vessel Dali in connection with the high-profile bridge collapse incident, marking a significant step toward resolving one of the most complex maritime liability cases in recent years.

The agreement, while not yet finalized, is expected to address key claims related to damages, recovery costs, and infrastructure rebuilding following the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge. The incident had disrupted major shipping lanes and caused widespread logistical and economic impacts.

Officials indicated that negotiations have been ongoing between state authorities, legal representatives, and the vessel’s ownership and insurance entities. The settlement in principle suggests that both sides are moving toward avoiding prolonged litigation.

The bridge collapse, which occurred after the vessel struck a support structure, led to a temporary shutdown of port operations in Baltimore and triggered extensive salvage and recovery efforts. The case has drawn global attention due to its scale and implications for maritime safety and liability frameworks.

Industry experts note that the outcome could set important precedents for how responsibility is determined in similar incidents involving large commercial vessels and critical infrastructure.

Further details of the settlement, including financial terms and timelines, are expected to be disclosed once the agreement is formally concluded.
