Mormugao Port Authority has emerged as the fastest-growing major port in India in terms of cargo growth, reflecting strong operational performance and rising trade activity through the western coast gateway.

The port authority also honoured key stakeholders, including shipping lines, exporters, importers, logistics operators and trade partners, for their contribution to the port’s cargo handling growth and operational efficiency. Officials said collaborative efforts across the maritime supply chain played a crucial role in achieving the milestone.

Industry sources noted that increased cargo volumes across bulk, container and coastal shipping segments contributed to the port’s growth momentum. Infrastructure upgrades, improved cargo handling capabilities and enhanced turnaround efficiency have also supported higher throughput levels at the port.

Located in Goa, Mormugao Port serves as a strategic maritime gateway for mineral exports, petroleum products, coal, container cargo and coastal trade. The port has been focusing on capacity expansion, mechanisation and digitalisation initiatives to improve competitiveness and attract additional cargo volumes.

Maritime experts said strong cargo growth at major ports reflects increasing trade activity and continued investment in India’s port-led development strategy aimed at strengthening logistics efficiency and multimodal connectivity.
