Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, C. Joseph Vijay, today held a high-level meeting with representatives of the South Indian Sugar Mills Association (Tamil Nadu) and leading sugar manufacturing companies at the State Secretariat to discuss the future growth of the sugar sector and opportunities for investment in the state.
The meeting brought together key stakeholders from Tamil Nadu’s sugar industry, including Mr. R. Varadarajan, President of the South Indian Sugar Mills Association (Tamil Nadu); Mrs. Rajshree Pathy, Chairperson of Rajshree Sugars; Dr. M. Manickam, Chairperson of Sakthi Sugars; Mr. Muthiah Murugappan, Chief Executive Officer of EID Parry India Limited; Mr. Arjun Kothari, Managing Director of Kothari Sugars; and Mr. N. Ramanathan, Managing Director of Ponni Sugars, among other senior industry executives.
During the discussions, the Chief Minister and industry representatives reviewed the current status of the sugar sector in Tamil Nadu and explored measures to enhance its competitiveness and long-term sustainability. Key areas of focus included agricultural development, sugarcane productivity, industrial investments, technological modernization, and value-added opportunities within the sugar ecosystem.
The industry leaders shared their perspectives on strengthening the sector’s contribution to the state’s economy, supporting farmers, and creating employment opportunities across rural and industrial regions. Discussions also covered ways to attract further investments and improve the overall business environment for sugar manufacturing and allied industries.
The meeting reflects the Tamil Nadu government’s continued engagement with industry stakeholders to promote industrial growth, enhance agricultural prosperity, and position the state as a leading destination for manufacturing and agri-based investments.
Officials said the interaction would help foster closer collaboration between the government and industry in driving sustainable growth and expanding opportunities across the sugar value chain in Tamil Nadu.
