V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority has reported a strong performance in the handling of caustic soda lye cargo, registering a 31.99 per cent increase during April–May of FY 2026-27 compared with the corresponding period of the previous financial year.
The significant growth underscores the port’s growing role as a key facilitator of industrial trade and highlights the confidence reposed in the port by its stakeholders and trade partners.
According to the port authority, the increase in cargo volumes reflects the combined efforts of port personnel, operational stakeholders and logistics partners in ensuring efficient cargo movement and uninterrupted services. The port attributed the growth to its continued emphasis on operational excellence, customer-centric service delivery and seamless logistics facilitation.
Caustic soda lye is a critical industrial chemical widely used in sectors such as chemicals, textiles, paper, alumina refining and water treatment. The increase in handling volumes indicates sustained industrial demand and the port’s ability to efficiently cater to specialized liquid bulk cargo requirements.
The achievement further strengthens VOC Port’s position as one of India’s leading gateways for industrial and bulk cargo trade. Through ongoing improvements in infrastructure, operational efficiency and logistics connectivity, the port continues to support industrial growth, enhance supply chain reliability and create greater value for trade and industry in the region.
Port officials said the performance reaffirms VOC Port’s commitment to providing reliable, efficient and stakeholder-focused services while contributing to the growth of India’s maritime and industrial sectors.
