The Rotterdam–Munich rail link is designed to shift a significant share of freight movement from highways to rail, helping reduce road congestion, lower carbon emissions, and improve the efficiency of European supply chains. The service offers regular departures and reliable transit times, enabling logistics providers to move cargo more sustainably across one of Europe’s key trade corridors.
The rail route connects the Port of Rotterdam—Europe’s largest seaport—with Munich, an important industrial and logistics hub in southern Germany. The enhanced connectivity is expected to facilitate the movement of trailers, containers, automotive components, consumer goods, industrial products, and other high-volume cargo.
By integrating road and rail transport, the service enables trailers to be transported over long distances by train while using trucks for first- and last-mile delivery.
