    A senior US official visited Colombo to explore opportunities for expanding maritime and port cooperation with Sri Lanka, underscoring Washington’s growing interest in strengthening its strategic and economic engagement in the Indian Ocean region.

    During the visit, discussions focused on enhancing port infrastructure, improving maritime security, facilitating trade, and supporting supply chain resilience. The talks also covered potential collaboration in logistics, capacity building, and operational efficiency at Sri Lankan ports.

    The visit reflects increasing efforts by both countries to deepen bilateral ties through maritime cooperation while promoting secure and efficient regional trade routes. Enhanced collaboration is expected to support Sri Lanka’s ambition to strengthen its position as a key transshipment and logistics hub in the Indian Ocean.
