Chennai Port Authority has announced measures to facilitate container vessels seeking an alternative or additional port of call amid ongoing disruptions in the maritime supply chain caused by the West Asia crisis, weather-related disruptions and other operational challenges.
In a Trade Advisory dated August 28, 2026, the Port Authority said it is willing to facilitate vessels requiring an alternative or additional port of call on a case-to-case basis, subject to operational feasibility and applicable statutory requirements.
Shipping lines, vessel owners, vessel operators and their authorised agents requiring a vessel to call at Chennai Port as an alternative or additional port of call have been requested to approach the Chennai Port Authority with the relevant vessel, schedule and cargo particulars at the earliest.
The Port Authority, in consultation with concerned stakeholders, will endeavour to facilitate such requests, while ensuring compliance with operational and statutory requirements.
The initiative reflects Chennai Port Authority’s efforts to strengthen the resilience of maritime supply chains and support the uninterrupted movement of cargo during the prevailing disruptions.
