India’s services exports have increased by around 13% during the current fiscal year, while services imports have surged 17%, highlighting strong growth in cross-border services activity.

The export growth reflects continued demand for Indian services in international markets, supported by sectors such as information technology, business services, financial services and professional services.

Services imports have grown at a faster pace, indicating increased spending on overseas services and international business operations. The widening growth gap between exports and imports could influence India’s services trade surplus.

India’s services sector remains a key contributor to the country’s external trade, helping offset part of the merchandise trade deficit. IT and IT-enabled services, software, business process management and other professional services continue to support export earnings.

The latest figures underline the importance of services in India’s trade performance as global demand, technology adoption and international business activity evolve.

Higher services imports also reflect the growing integration of Indian businesses with global service providers and markets.

The government and industry are focusing on expanding India’s services export base, improving competitiveness and accessing new international markets to sustain growth.

The performance of services exports and imports will remain important for India’s overall trade balance and external sector outlook during the fiscal year.
