Oman is targeting the start of green hydrogen exports by 2030 and is looking to strengthen cooperation with India in the emerging clean-energy sector.
The Gulf nation is developing a large-scale green hydrogen industry as part of its strategy to diversify its economy and expand its role in the global clean-energy market. Oman has significant renewable-energy potential, particularly in solar and wind power, which can support the production of green hydrogen and its derivatives.
Omani authorities are exploring opportunities to collaborate with India across the green hydrogen value chain, including production, technology, infrastructure and trade. Greater cooperation could support the development of supply chains linking Oman’s renewable-energy resources with India’s growing demand for low-carbon fuels.
India has identified green hydrogen as an important component of its energy-transition strategy and is developing domestic production capacity while also exploring international partnerships and import opportunities.
For Oman, India represents a potential market and strategic partner as the country moves towards commercial green hydrogen exports. Cooperation could also extend to green ammonia and other hydrogen-based products that can be transported more easily through existing maritime infrastructure.
The planned exports would position Oman as a potential supplier in the growing international green hydrogen market. Both countries are expected to continue discussions on investment, technology and long-term supply arrangements as Oman works towards its 2030 export ambitions.
