Tata Motors and Amazon have partnered to deploy 3,000 electric trucks across Amazon’s transportation network in India, marking a significant step towards sustainable and energy-efficient e-commerce logistics.
The initial fleet of electric trucks was flagged off by Union Minister for Heavy Industries H. D. Kumaraswamy at an event marking the collaboration. According to a joint announcement, the entire fleet of 3,000 electric trucks is expected to be deployed within three years.
Congratulating the companies on the initiative, Kumaraswamy highlighted the growing importance of electrifying commercial transportation alongside the progress made in electric passenger vehicles and two-wheelers.
“As India’s economy expands, the demand for freight transportation will continue to increase. We must therefore ensure that the growth of our logistics sector is accompanied by greater energy efficiency,” the minister said, describing the initiative as an important step in that direction.
The deployment is expected to support Amazon’s efforts to reduce the environmental impact of its transportation operations while advancing the adoption of electric vehicles in India’s commercial logistics sector.
The partnership also underscores the growing role of electric trucks in transforming freight transportation, improving energy efficiency and supporting the transition towards more sustainable logistics solutions in India.
