Maersk has announced the withdrawal of its existing Heavy Load Surcharge (HWS) for 20-foot dry containers (20DRY) moving from North West India to North Europe and the Mediterranean, effective November 7, 2026.

Under the revised tariff, the HWS rate will be zero for 20DRY containers with a Verified Gross Mass (VGM) exceeding 22 metric tonnes, destined for North Europe (NEU/E3W) and the Mediterranean (MED/E4W).

The revised tariff applies to cargo originating from the North West Indian ports of Nhava Sheva, Mundra, Pipavav and Hazira. The change is applicable exclusively to contract bookings.

The applicable rate will be determined based on the Price Calculation Date (PCD), which, for non-spot bookings, refers to the scheduled departure date of the first water leg recorded at the time of booking confirmation.

VGM includes the weight of the cargo, dunnage and bracing, along with the tare weight of the container.

Maersk clarified that the revised rates remain subject to other applicable surcharges, including local and contingency charges. The change does not affect tariffs notified, published or filed under applicable local regulatory requirements.
