Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) has received an order for the Aquamarine Progress II, an LPG dual-fuel LPG/ammonia carrier (VLGC) from Aramo Shipping Pte. Ltd in Singapore.

The dual-fuel carrier was reportedly delivered on 26 April by Namura Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.

The Aquamarine Progress II will sail under a time charter contract with GYXIS Corporation, a Japanese LPG importer and distributor.

The dual-fuel vessel may run on either LPG or traditional heavy oil. Using LPG reduces CO2 emissions by about 20 per cent, as well as SOx and PM emissions by around 90 per cent as compared to heavy oil.

The vessel was named by GYXIS President and Representative Director, Keiji Tanaka, during a ceremony on 12 March at Namura Shipbuilding’s Imari Works.

MOL and GYXIS both noted that they will work together to provide a consistent supply of LPG in Japan by operating the Aquamarine Progress II vessel.

In March, MOL signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the cooperative development of a synthetic fuel (e-fuel) and synthetic methanol (e-methanol) supply chain.
