Construction of a 4-lane bypass to Vellore town, connecting NH-75 and NH-38, spanning a total length of 20.492 km in Vellore district in Tamil Nadu, has been sanctioned at a cost of ₹753 crore, Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari said in a social media post.

    Land acquisition

The greenfield alignment bypass is designed to alleviate congestion within Vellore city. Land acquisition will be undertaken with a Right of Way of 50 metres, rather than the standard 30 metres, to facilitate the future expansion of the bypass into a 6-lane carriageway with 2-lane service roads, in accordance with IRC guidelines, the post said.

Adequate cross-drainage systems and bridge structures will be incorporated to ensure the safe passage of water bodies, addressing concerns related to the region’s history of severe flooding and associated disasters, the post said.
