The Alexandria Port Authority and the Ports of Montenegro have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening cooperation in port management, maritime transport and logistics, marking a significant step towards enhancing bilateral maritime ties between Egypt and Montenegro.
The agreement was signed during the official visit of Montenegro President Jakov Milatović to Egypt, in the presence of Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly. Rear Admiral Ehab Salah, Chairman of the Alexandria Port Authority, and Stanko Dretić, President of the Ports of Montenegro, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations.
The partnership establishes a framework for collaboration in key areas including port management and operations, digital transformation, knowledge sharing, capacity building and environmental sustainability. It also aims to explore opportunities to improve maritime connectivity between Egyptian and Montenegrin ports, supporting global supply chains while facilitating trade and investment.
Officials from both countries emphasized that the strategic locations of Egypt on the Mediterranean Sea and Montenegro on the Adriatic Sea provide a strong foundation for closer maritime and logistics cooperation, creating new trade links between European markets and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
The agreement aligns with Egypt’s ongoing port modernization programme, which focuses on expanding port capacity, upgrading logistics infrastructure and enhancing the country’s position as a leading regional trade and transshipment hub.
According to the Alexandria Port Authority, the MoU reflects its commitment to expanding international partnerships with major ports and maritime organizations, promoting the exchange of expertise, technology transfer and operational best practices, while supporting the Egyptian Ministry of Transport’s vision of building a more competitive and sustainable maritime sector.
