Global shipping bodies led by BIMCO have issued fresh guidance for vessel transit through the Strait of Hormuz amid ongoing navigational and security disruptions in the region.
The advisory, developed jointly by International Chamber of Shipping, INTERCARGO, INTERTANKO, International Marine Contractors Association, and Oil Companies International Marine Forum, warns that hundreds of vessels remain unable to transit the Strait, creating the risk of severe congestion and navigational hazards once movements resume.
The document is designed to complement the Best Management Practices Maritime Security (BMP MS) framework and support voyage-specific threat and risk assessments, enabling shipowners and operators to strengthen shipboard and shore-based planning.
Industry groups said the guidance aims to help vessels safely manage transits into, within, and out of the Gulf region during periods of heightened regional security risk.
