Arne Blystad-backed Songa Box has gone to the Saverys family to expand. Alphaliner is reporting Songa Box has bought two 2,592 teu class ships from Compagnie Maritime Berge (CMB), the Santa Marta Express and the Puerto Limon Express, paying around $46m for the pair, which are currently on charter to Hapag-Lloyd. The ships were built at Hyundai Heavy Industries in 2010 and 2009 respectively.

The 210m long ships are equipped with four cranes of 40 tons and offer 600 plugs for reefer containers. Alphaliner notes that among their interesting features is also a 1A ice class, a rarity for geared ships of this size.

In addition to these two ships, Songa Box has also been linked to the purchase of the 1,732 teu, 2007-built Hansa Wolfsburg, a purchase that if confirmed would take Blystad’s box fleet to 10 vessels.
