Chennai Port Authority (ChPA) is stepping up efforts to strengthen rail-based cargo movement and expand the port’s connectivity with key hinterland markets.
Shri Sachin S. Kurve, Chairperson, Chennai Port Authority, and Shri Santosh Sinha, Managing Director, Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC), held discussions on enhancing the Port’s rail quotient and developing new rail-linked cargo markets.
The discussions focused on key hinterlands including Pollachi, Hyderabad and Mysore, with an emphasis on identifying suitable cargo that can be shifted from road to rail. The initiative aims to improve cargo evacuation, reduce dependence on road transportation and provide more efficient and sustainable logistics solutions to shippers.
The engagement also explored opportunities to tap new rail markets and strengthen end-to-end multimodal connectivity between Chennai Port and major consumption and production centres.
The increased focus on rail connectivity is expected to support faster cargo movement, improve hinterland access and reinforce Chennai Port’s role as a key trade gateway for southern and central Indian markets.
