Chennai Port is stepping up efforts to strengthen rail connectivity with Hyderabad and enhance seamless EXIM cargo movement between the Telangana hinterland and the port.
A delegation from Chennai Port recently visited Hyderabad and held discussions with the Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTCCI), Customs Brokers Association Hyderabad (CBAH), CONCOR ICD Sanathnagar, exporters, importers, logistics service providers and shipping lines.
The discussions focused on the possibility of institutionalising a weekly rail service between Hyderabad and Chennai Port, aimed at providing the trade community with a reliable, efficient and cost-effective multimodal logistics solution.
The proposed rail connectivity is expected to facilitate smoother cargo movement, improve supply-chain efficiency and provide exporters and importers in the Hyderabad region with an additional gateway for international trade.
Chennai Port is actively strengthening its rail infrastructure and hinterland connectivity to cater to growing EXIM requirements. The port currently has an extensive 31-km rail network and nine rake sidings, enabling efficient handling and movement of cargo.
The initiative to establish a regular Hyderabad–Chennai rail service underlines Chennai Port’s focus on deepening its engagement with key hinterland markets and creating more efficient multimodal logistics corridors for India’s growing trade.
