Global shipping, logistics and marine services provider GAC has acquired one of New Zealand’s leading shipping agencies Quadrant Pacific from Swire Shipping for an undisclosed sum.

“This acquisition marks a significant milestone in the company’s longstanding presence in the region,” GAC said.

The duo has worked together since the establishment of GAC New Zealand in 2008, and the acquisition is expected to boost GAC’s operations by directly managing ship agency services at all ports across the country.

“Quadrant Pacific has been an invaluable partner over the years, and we appreciate the opportunity to integrate their expertise into our operations, said Scott Henderson, managing director for GAC Australia and GAC New Zealand.

Quadrant Pacific was set up after the New Zealand Agency business was separated from Tasman Asia’s combined line and agency operation to form its own entity. Swire Shipping became the company’s sole owner in early 2022 buying out Ahrenkiel Shipping.

The acquisition will be finalised by July, integrating Quadrant Pacific agency staff members into GAC New Zealand’s operations.

“This agreement will allow us to focus on our core business areas of domestic and international shipping, cargo management and logistics, while providing continuity to our customers with the support of one of the largest global agency networks,” added Alistair Skingley director of Quadrant Pacific.
