GMR Hyderabad International Airport (GHIAL) on Monday commissioned Cargo Terminal 2 at Hyderabad International Airport, strengthening the airport’s cargo handling and cold-chain infrastructure.
Spread across 16,864 sq. m, the new terminal has been designed for operational efficiency and future scalability. The facility will begin operations with an annual handling capacity of around 50,000 metric tonnes, with expansion provisions to increase capacity to 100,000 metric tonnes per annum.
Kadhir Kadhiravan, CEO of GHIAL, said the terminal has been built to support high-value and time-sensitive cargo segments, including pharmaceuticals and express consignments, with enhanced speed, precision, and reliability.
Sanjiv Edward, CEO of GMR Aero Cargo & Logistics, said the launch marks a major step in strengthening India’s air logistics ecosystem and reinforces the company’s commitment to world-class cargo infrastructure.
The terminal includes dedicated inbound and outbound cargo zones, export and import processing areas, multi-level racking systems for optimized storage, and spacious build-up and breakdown zones for parallel shipment processing.
A key highlight of Cargo Terminal 2 is its fully temperature-controlled pharma zone, specifically developed for pharmaceutical and perishable cargo handling. Equipped with advanced temperature cut-off systems and continuous monitoring technology, the facility is aimed at ensuring end-to-end cold-chain reliability as Hyderabad continues to emerge as a major global pharmaceutical hub.
