Grimaldi Group is expanding its vehicle-carrier fleet with the addition of the Grande Pacifico, a next-generation Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC) with a capacity of 9,800 CEU. The vessel is part of a new series ordered by the Italian shipping group to strengthen its vehicle transport capabilities.

The Grande Pacifico is designed with a strong focus on energy efficiency and environmental performance. It is ammonia-ready, allowing for potential future conversion to ammonia fuel, and incorporates technologies including a 5 MWh lithium-ion battery system, 2,500 square metres of solar panels, cold ironing and air-lubrication systems.

The vessel also features an innovative gate rudder designed to improve propulsion efficiency and manoeuvrability. These technologies are intended to reduce fuel consumption and emissions compared with conventional car carriers.

Grande Pacifico belongs to a series of 9,800-CEU PCTCs forming part of Grimaldi’s wider fleet-modernisation programme. The company has ordered 17 next-generation PCTCs under its 2022–2023 investment programme, representing an investment of more than $1.6 billion.

The addition of Grande Pacifico will strengthen Grimaldi’s capacity to transport cars, commercial vehicles and other rolling cargo while supporting the group’s strategy of developing a larger, more energy-efficient fleet.
