Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) has received a platinum grade in sustainability, the highest level of recognition from EcoVadis.

The company received a silver rating in 2021, upgraded to gold in 2022, and elevated to platinum in 2023.

The EcoVadis evaluates corporate social responsibility performance in four key areas: the environment, labour and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement.

The criteria for the scorecards are Platinum (top 1 per cent) > Gold (top 5 per cent) > Silver (15 per cent) > Bronze (35 per cent), and No Ratings (the remainder).

This year, the assessment methodology was reorganised strengthening the grading standards. HMM has been recognised by EcoVadis as one of the world’s top 1 per cent sustainable firms in the Sea and Coastal Water Transport industry, earning the EcoVadis platinum grade for the first time.

A representative for HMM stated: “We are committed to fulfilling our corporate social responsibility (CSR) by enhancing market competitiveness and promoting sustainable management for the green future. We will continue to drive and enhance its environmental, social and governance (ESG) management to achieve sustainable growth.”

In April, HMM signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG) to supply clean marine fuel.
