India has approved the export of 500 tonnes of hilsa fish to Bangladesh, allowing traders to supply the popular seasonal fish to the neighbouring country.

The export permission comes ahead of the festive season in Bangladesh, when demand for hilsa traditionally rises. The move is expected to support bilateral trade and strengthen food-product trade between the two countries.

    Seasonal Demand Drives Shipments

Hilsa is a highly valued fish in Bangladesh and traditionally sees strong demand during the festive period. Indian exporters are expected to benefit from the seasonal market opportunity, while Bangladeshi consumers will gain access to additional supplies.

The authorised quantity is limited to 500 tonnes, reflecting the seasonal and regulated nature of hilsa exports from India.

    Trade Links Strengthened

The approval adds to ongoing commercial ties between India and Bangladesh, particularly in food and agricultural products. Hilsa shipments are expected to move through designated export channels and comply with applicable customs and food-safety requirements.

The latest decision provides a temporary boost to cross-border seafood trade while helping meet Bangladesh’s seasonal demand for hilsa.
