Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) has announced the development of India’s first integrated Export-Import-cum-Domestic Agricultural Processing & Storage Facility within the port premises, marking a major step towards strengthening the country’s agricultural logistics ecosystem.
The strategically located facility has been designed to provide seamless connectivity to container terminals, national highways and hinterland markets, enabling faster and more efficient movement of agricultural commodities across both domestic and international supply chains.
The integrated infrastructure includes cold storage, pre-cooling units, frozen storage, dry warehouses and export packhouse facilities, creating a comprehensive logistics hub for agricultural cargo. By consolidating processing, storage and export-related services at the port, the facility is expected to improve cargo handling efficiency while reducing post-harvest and transit losses.
According to JNPA, the project is aimed at creating a future-ready ecosystem that supports India’s growing agricultural exports through modern infrastructure and streamlined logistics operations.
The facility is expected to enhance multimodal connectivity by integrating road and port infrastructure, facilitating smoother cargo movement from production centres to international markets. It will also support exporters with improved storage and value-added processing capabilities, helping maintain product quality and competitiveness.
The initiative aligns with the Government of India’s vision of strengthening agricultural exports through world-class logistics infrastructure and reinforces JNPA’s position as one of the country’s leading gateways for agricultural trade.
With the new facility, JNPA aims to play a pivotal role in improving supply chain efficiency, reducing logistics costs and expanding market access for Indian agricultural produce in both domestic and global markets.
