Macau and the Philippines have signed an air services agreement aimed at expanding aviation capacity and strengthening cargo transportation rights between the two destinations.
The agreement is expected to provide greater flexibility for airlines operating between Macau and the Philippines, supporting increased air connectivity and creating opportunities to expand freight services. Improved cargo access could benefit exporters, importers, freight forwarders and logistics providers by offering additional options for moving goods by air.
Expanded air services rights can also support trade growth by enabling airlines to adjust capacity in response to market demand. The agreement reflects efforts to strengthen regional aviation links and facilitate the movement of passengers and cargo.
The new agreement will replace the previous pact signed in 1997. Under the revised terms, cargo capacity on routes other than Clark will increase to 600 tonnes per week per side, while Clark services will retain unlimited cargo capacity. Both sides have also agreed to fully liberalise fifth-freedom rights for cargo operations, allowing airlines greater flexibility to carry freight between additional destinations as part of their services.
