Maersk has announced the appointment of Thomas Theeuwes as its new Managing Director for the India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka (IBS) area, effective January 1, 2026. He will succeed Christopher Cook, who will take over as Managing Director for Maersk in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Theeuwes, who has been serving as Managing Director for Maersk’s West Africa Area since 2024, brings close to two decades of global experience across Europe, China and Africa. Since joining Maersk in Belgium in 2007, he has held key commercial and leadership roles, recognised for driving operational excellence, building strong teams, and advancing customer-focused growth strategies.

“It is with great pleasure that I welcome Thomas to his new role in one of our most important markets. Thomas is a seasoned leader, and his experience from various parts of the world will aid our growth in this region,” said Richard Morgan, Managing Director for the Indian Subcontinent, Middle East, and Africa. He also acknowledged Cook’s leadership, noting, “Christopher has been pivotal in operationalising our long-term strategy and delivering exceptional growth across India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. His leadership has positioned us strongly for the next phase of development, and we look forward to his continued success in his new role.”

During his tenure in West Africa, Theeuwes built a robust area leadership team and strengthened Maersk’s alignment with regional economic development. Under his guidance, the team consistently delivered strong business results while enhancing Maersk’s customer offerings.

Commenting on his new role, Theeuwes said, “The India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh markets are extremely exciting with great growth potential. I am excited to work closely with our talented team here. Together, we will strengthen Maersk’s position as a trusted logistics partner for our customers while driving solutions that create value for them and our stakeholders.”

The leadership transition marks a strategic step for Maersk as it continues to expand its integrated logistics capabilities across the fast-growing South Asian region.
