A high-level delegation from the Federal Parliament of Nepal visited Hambantota International Port (HIP) recently to explore potential business opportunities and gain first-hand insight into the port’s infrastructure, strategic operations, and investment prospects.
The visit was part of a broader initiative to strengthen regional cooperation and promote cross-border commercial partnerships. The delegation consisted of Secretary General, Federal Parliament, Padma Prasad Pandey; Dr. Rojnath Pande, Secretary, Federal Parliament Secretariat; Joint Secretary, Federal Parliament Secretariat, Laxmi Prasad Gautam; Under Secretary, Federal Parliament Secretariat, Bhojraj Sharma Paudel; Ms. Rekha Upadhyaya Khanal, Under Secretary, Federal Parliament Secretariat and Chivantha Galanga, Parliamentary Officer, Sri Lanka. They were given a comprehensive tour of HIP’s state-of-the-art facilities and briefed by senior officials on the port’s capabilities, growth strategy, and ongoing initiatives in port services, logistics, and industrial development.
HIP representatives shared insights into how the port’s unique location and multipurpose capabilities position it as a key logistics and maritime hub in the Indian Ocean region. The delegation was invited to encourage Nepalese investors and enterprises to explore opportunities for trade, logistics, and industrial collaboration through partnerships with Hambantota International Port Group (HIPG).
The visit marked an important step in fostering economic dialogue between Sri Lanka and Nepal, further highlighting HIP’s growing role as a regional platform for investment and connectivity.
