Odisha has secured 58 port-linked infrastructure projects valued at more than ₹56,000 crore under the Centre’s Sagarmala programme, marking a significant boost to the state’s maritime infrastructure and logistics capabilities.
The projects are aimed at enhancing port connectivity, expanding cargo handling capacity, improving multimodal transport networks, and supporting industrial development along Odisha’s coastline. The investments are expected to strengthen the state’s role as a major maritime gateway for eastern India and facilitate more efficient movement of domestic and international cargo.
The Sagarmala initiative focuses on port modernization, new port development, road and rail connectivity, coastal community development, and logistics infrastructure. The projects in Odisha cover a wide range of sectors, including port expansion, coastal infrastructure, industrial clusters, inland connectivity, and logistics parks.
Officials said the investments will improve operational efficiency at the state’s ports, reduce logistics costs, and create a more integrated supply chain for industries such as steel, mining, power, petrochemicals, and manufacturing. Enhanced connectivity is also expected to support higher export volumes and attract additional private investment to the region.
The projects are anticipated to generate substantial employment opportunities during both the construction and operational phases while contributing to economic growth across coastal districts. Improved port infrastructure will also strengthen Odisha’s competitiveness as a preferred destination for trade, shipping, and industrial investment.
With over ₹56,000 crore earmarked under the Sagarmala programme, Odisha is set to accelerate the development of its maritime ecosystem, reinforcing its position as one of India’s leading port and logistics hubs and supporting the country’s broader vision of becoming a globally competitive maritime nation.
