Ocean Network Express (ONE) is adding a second call at Rio de Janeiro to its SX2 service, strengthening its coverage of Brazil and providing additional connectivity for cargo moving through the South Atlantic.
The additional Rio de Janeiro call forms part of an adjustment to the SX2 service network. The change is aimed at expanding the service’s port coverage and improving options for customers shipping cargo between Brazil and international markets.
Rio de Janeiro is an important gateway for containerised trade in southeastern Brazil, serving industrial, manufacturing and consumer markets in the region. An additional call can provide shippers with greater flexibility in accessing the port and connecting cargo with onward services.
The SX2 service links ports in South America with international trade networks, providing container shipping connections for exporters and importers. By increasing its presence at Rio de Janeiro, ONE is strengthening the service’s coverage in one of Brazil’s key cargo-generating regions.
The additional port call also gives customers more options for cargo planning and may improve access to available vessel capacity on the service. For exporters, direct or improved connectivity can support the movement of agricultural, industrial and manufactured goods, while importers can benefit from additional options for inbound container flows.
ONE has been adjusting its service network in response to changing trade patterns, customer requirements and vessel deployment. Port rotations are regularly reviewed by carriers to align capacity with demand and improve network efficiency.
The expanded Rio de Janeiro coverage comes as container shipping lines continue to refine their South American networks. Brazil remains a major market in the region, with ports on both the Atlantic and southeastern coast serving extensive domestic and international supply chains.
The second Rio de Janeiro call will therefore provide an additional connection within ONE’s SX2 network and strengthen the carrier’s presence in the Brazilian market.
