The Port of New York and New Jersey handled 5.96 million loaded TEUs in 2025, reflecting steady cargo activity amid evolving global trade and supply chain conditions.

Port officials said the performance was supported by resilient import demand and stable export flows, with the port maintaining its position as one of the busiest gateways in the United States. Continued investment in terminal infrastructure and landside connectivity helped sustain cargo movement during the year.

The port noted that operational improvements, including enhanced terminal productivity and better coordination with rail and trucking partners, contributed to handling higher volumes efficiently. Ongoing channel deepening and infrastructure upgrades also supported the accommodation of larger vessels.

Industry observers said the 2025 throughput highlights the port’s ability to adapt to shifting trade patterns, even as shipping lines and shippers navigate market volatility.

The Port Authority said it will continue to focus on capacity expansion, sustainability initiatives, and supply chain resilience to support long-term growth.
