PSA India, which recently inaugurated its largest container terminal, has deepened its social responsibility footprint through a comprehensive CSR portfolio focused on education, healthcare, women’s empowerment, and early childhood development.

Implemented over the recent fiscal year, these initiatives highlight the port operator’s commitment to inclusive growth across communities near its terminal operations. Executed through partnerships with specialized NGOs, the programmes have reached more than 2,000 direct beneficiaries across multiple states, reinforcing PSA India’s broader sustainability agenda that includes achieving carbon neutrality at key terminals.

Under its education pillar, PSA India launched the Jigyasa Max STEM Lab Program in collaboration with the Women’s Organisation for Socio-Cultural Awareness (WOSCA). The initiative has benefitted over 340 students and trained 15 teachers in experiential learning methods, transforming traditional classrooms into interactive science and math laboratories.

In women’s empowerment, PSA India’s Women Skilling Programme with the Astha Social Foundation has trained more than 60 women in tailoring and general duty healthcare, while another 370 are enrolled in upcoming batches. The initiative is fostering micro-enterprises and employability in rural and semi-urban areas, advancing women’s economic independence.

In healthcare, PSA India partnered with the Arpan Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Society to conduct genetic screening camps on college campuses, identifying a 2.6% thalassemia minor positivity rate among participants. The initiative provided genetic counseling and raised awareness on hereditary health issues among young adults.

For early childhood development, the company collaborated with Vipla Foundation (Save the Children India) to strengthen Anganwadi Centres by training 114 workers and screening 1,196 children under six years for hearing impairments. The programme has improved early learning outcomes and parental engagement in line with India’s National Education Policy 2020.

Parallel to its social programmes, PSA India continues to advance its environmental goals. PSA Mumbai has become the country’s first 100% renewable-powered container terminal, while PSA Chennai targets carbon neutrality by 2030 through increased electrification and renewable energy use.

PSA India’s CSR framework stands out for its strategic partnership model, leveraging the expertise of domain-specific NGOs to ensure impact-driven outcomes.

As India scales up its infrastructure and sustainability ambitions, PSA India’s integrated approach—combining operational excellence with community development—sets a strong example of how ports can serve as engines of both economic and social progress.
